8th grade students had to choose a person they admire and create a stencil. We then spray painted through the stencil for their final pieces. This project was inspired by the street artist Banksy. 8th grade students learn about contemporary artist Claes Oldenburg and are working toward creating their own Oldenburg inspired piece. There was a 1 ft. requirement on this project. As you will see many student went much larger. Check out student progress below: The 8th grade classes worked together to complete this collaborative mural. The original piece was cut into 1 inch squares and students selected their square. They then enlarged it onto a 10 inch square.
8th grade studied Commercial Art. We discussed what commercial art was, types of commercial art, what it was used for and who makes it. Then they collaborated with a group to create a new soft drink; they had to brainstorm a name, its slogan, and its color scheme. Finally they put all that information onto their own billboard design. The final billboards are below: 1st hour artwork:7th hour artwork:8th grade just completed their printmaking project. Students had to come up with a three tone color scheme on black, white, and a choice colored paper. They were allowed to choose their subject matter. The first layer of color was done using only the block. The second layer was made after carving out the background. Finally only details were left on the block for the final print, using their third color. Check them out below: 1st hour artwork:7th hour artwork:The 8th grade students have been working on an Optical or Op Art project. We watched a short video where we learn that Op Art creates optical allusions. The term referenced the fact that Op Art is comprised of illusion, and often appears - to the human eye - to be moving or breathing due to its precise, mathematically-based composition. So, yes students had to use a little math for this project. Check them out: 1st hour artists' work:7th hour artists' work: |
